Biking with some buddies, I noticed a lady in a motorized wheelchair crossing the street ahead—a large bump made multiple grocery items fall to the ground. Since she was in the middle of the road, we immediately biked over and gathered and secured her items. She seemed more frazzled and nervous than grateful, but I'm sure she was thankful to have had us there. I particularly liked learning that my friends had the same instinct as I to go to her aid, no questions asked :)

On the way back from meeting my husband for lunch, I was rushing to get back the office because he arrived late to lunch. About 1 mile from the office, I spotted an elderly, grandma-type lady standing at the side of a very busy intersection. She was obviously very upset, and no one was stopping. I pulled into the turn lane of this busy 4-lane road and asked her if she was OK. Turns out she didn't speak English and started talking in rapid-fire Polish. Long story short: through the help of at least 4 people at the nearby Honda dealership, she was reunited with her family 4 hours later. She suffered from early Alzheimer's and had walked out of her daughter's house. Let's all slow down and remember to help those in need--all it took was a little time on my part.
